What Annapurna Illusion has essentially lifted from the kosmische giants of 69-73 is not so much their sound as their overall approach. The music on Life Is An Illusion is gigantic and all-encompassing, conjuring up images of towering mountains, lost gods and swirling cosmos. At the same time, he elegantly suffuses his insistent and open-ended drones with touches of industrial noise and saturation that in less capable hands would seem out of place or clumsy. As such, Life Is An Illusion is one of the most accomplished synth drone albums released this last decade, and a welcome addition to the great kosmische canon.

We told the story about Kunlun when the first tape came out. This is the second record of this project and the obsession stays the same...Looking for artificial paradise. What a better way than minimal acid droney techno to digitalize your mind? This one is a step further in the unknown, you'll clim the laser stairs and get closer and closer to the point B. Just like Bowman.

Black Zone Myth Chant, or Black Zone M.C, launches this new year here at Winged Sun with a radical record. Year 2011 will be Hip Hop or will not be. Fat beats meet sci-fi synths and deeeeeep vocals. Few saxophone screams here, collateral damages of a free jazz youth. First tape of the "Straight Cassette Trilogy" coming entirely on Winged Sun this year. Available on tape, cd-r & flac (cd-r & flac contain bonus beats).
His glory will be to sing eternal law...Forgotten prayers in a forgotten language that find their way straight to your subconscient. Don't be surprised if you start to destroy televisions and burn your fashion clothes, grow weed and read books.

WSR13 High Wolf / Masaki Nakazawa - split (tape, 2010)
6,50 euros (shipping included) sold out

flac download (name your price)

Masaki Nakazawa, from the amazing band Topping Bottoms, is easily one of my favorite guitarists in the world. I just spent one month touring Japan with him, saw him play almost every day, jammed with him numerous times. What I can say is when he plays it's like his japanese tatoos take life and every ghost from ancient Japan, every kami is summoned. Winged Sun is more than proud to release his first solo piece ever. A side long reverb desert blues with haunting percussion, reminding me of Sun Araw's "The Phynx". You'll be pleased you discovered Masaki's music because he'll make great things. And I love this guy.
High Wolf shares the tape with one long 15 minutes piece showing a lot of range. It's starting with the furthest exploration of his dark side ever put on record (spent too much time with Annapurna Illusion), then turn into a psychedelic jam sounding like we're back at pharao's times and we have those fucking pyramids to build and concludes with a totally stoned improvisation, mainly acoustic, with a good dose of spiritual music and a spirit of tribe communion.
Maybe the best winged sun release so far, trust me on this one.

WSR12 Kunlun - Kunlun (tape, 2010)

flac download (name your price)

In the last couple of years new musicians like onehotrix point never or dolphins into the future made us travel through their cosmic ambient synthetizer music. A music to enjoy when you're stone and that stimulate your imagination. Their sounds make the same effect than staring at clouds : at some point you notice weird shapes and recognize animals or faces. Kunlun, newest entry in the winged sun collective, has the same objective with different means, proving that minimal electronic noise sounds and cold rythms can lead you to the same state of mind.
Minimal techno, acid house, Kunlun has no idea how that kind of music is supposed to sound like but has decided to make those genres his own and create what it evocates to him with synthetisers and effects pedals, diy spirit. Journey music, drug music, artificial paradise.

WSR11 Annapurna Illusion vs Niagara Falls (cdr, 2010)
5,50 euros (shipping included) sold out

Previously released on a german label but very difficult to get this is a reissue of this heavy split from 2009. Annapurna Illusion was barely born and delivered 3 tracks, mixing heavy metal guitars, kosmiche keyboards and lost dead souls drones. Niagara Falls from Philadelphia is offering two long improv kraut jams, alternating dreamy soundscapes with energy blasts...In those times of massive overdubbings (which is very good too) it feels good to hear one real band.

Listen to Annapurna Illusion "Sumatra Pt 1" Listen to Niagara Falls "Traumgekrönt (extract)"

WST2 High Wolf - Japan Tour (cdr, 2010)
5,5 euros (shipping included) sold out

Back from Japan tour with a handful of those tour cd's. Some kind of melting pot featuring the best cuts from the "Supermodern Temple" cs previously released on Krayon and some exclusive tracks also appearing on the japan tour tape which is completely and definitely sold out.

WSR10 Annapurna Illusion / High Wolf - Soul Division (tape, 2010)

6 euros (shipping included) sold out

The two faces of Winged Sun brought together for the very first time. Both are psychedelical music entities with esthetic specificities, white against black, sun versus moon... But sometimes eclipse happens and then everything is mixed.
High Wolf and his evil twin Annapurna Illusion are sharing this tape before the releasing of several vinyl Lp's for each project on different lands which should make them less present on the tape format.

WSR09 Voodoo Mount Sister - Voodoo Mount Sister (cdr - 2010)

5,50 euros (shipping included) sold out

Max (High Wolf) and Alice (Chicaloyoh) met for a day of totally improvised session. It was a a first musical meeting and it flowed like they were old friends souls. Sun was shining on this beautiful sunday afternoon...The music is some kind of retro-futuristic cosmic music...Max plays electric guitar, percussions, voice and Alice plays synth & sings yoghurt chants, all of this with many effects.

WSR08 L'Amazon Ram Arkestra - A.R.A (tape - 2010)
6 euros (shipping included) sold out

L'Amazon Ram Arkestra want to show a new side of biotope psychedelic music. Influenced by the music of western improvisation king bands such as Vibracathedral Orchestra, Second Family band or Golden Jooklo Age with a bit of rainforest wet atmosphere.

WSR06 A Musical Journey In India (cdr - 2010)
5,50 euros (shipping included) sold out

Recorded late 2009, those recordings took place in various places of India, from the down south to the north of the country, from the burning sand and warm sea to the holy ganga and the mountains. Indian classical and traditionnal music, holy chants, transey percussions, wheeping sitars...One hour of spicy music. If you're not made of stone this will speak to your mind.

High Wolf / Taterbug
bored fortress 7' (Not Not Fun 2010)
7 euros (shipping included) europe sold out

France’s fave psych-snakecharmer trances a new coiled creature from the same thatched basket of white light fuzz, canned drums, and keyboard sign language. Over on the wrong side of the tracks there’s Midwestern madcap Charles ‘Free’ Taterbug, perched on a fence with a 2-string and some rusted tape machines, crooning to the crickets in the parking lot. Sleeve art by Carlos Gonzalez.

High Wolf
- Incapulco LP (Sergent Massacre 2010)
16 euros (shipping included) europe sold out

The two faces of Winged Sun brought together for the very first time. Both are psychedelical music entities with esthetic specificities, white against black, sun versus moon... When it came out last year from nearly nowhere, High Wolf's 'Incapulco' casted a spell on us so intense that it came immediately obvious this record had to exist on wax. Imagine 'Incapulco' as an unmapped land, a place under mystic light. High Wolf's music transports you there. Fuzzy wah guitars, trancey keyboards, delayed vocals, groovy percussions and jungle spirit!

An excellent companion to the 'Ascension' LP that was released on Not Not Fun a couple of months ago. Originally self-released in a cdr edition, the record has been remastered by the mighty Pete Swanson for this vinyl edition and artwork has been completed by our friend César Brun. Pressed on heavy 180g black vinyl. Limited run, no repress. So act fast.

High Wolf
- Ascension LP (Not Not Fun 2010)
16 euros (shipping included) sold out

Pyramidal meditationist High Wolf has been highly active since last summer’s Animal Totem tape dropped on NNF: he’s released three full-length CDRs, started his own record label (Winged Sun), begun a mail-collab with Astral Social Club (as Iibiis Rooge), embarked on two UK/Euro tours (one with heavyweights Gnod), plus trekked out on a 2-month-long solo journey through India to collect field recordings and get deep. Whoa! Makes you feel lazy right? Well actually that’s not all, as he also spent a few months somewhere in there recording, mixing, and re-recording the five multifaceted ethno-flux odysseys that comprise Ascension, his debut vinyl full-length. Utilizing his usual toolbag of looped tablas, fuzz guitar leads, chiming white light guitar, synth swells, and cloud-climbing electronics, the album safaris through a host of ecstatic ritual landscapes with more focus and magic than any other High Wolf hunt to date. A beautiful album for dissolving, dreaming, dancing (in a certain way). Been spinning this one weekly, share the flight. Black vinyl LPs mastered by Pete Swanson and housed in jackets with artwork by Maia Serena and layout by Kaugummi captain Bartolomé Sanson.

High Wolf
- Shangri L.A (Moamoo 2010)
12,50 euros (shipping included) sold out
Still available at moamoo

High Wolf makes music like no one else on the planet. He claims to be from the Amazon and all his activities are shrouded in mystery. Sometimes he is just one man, other times High Wolf is a duo. In either case he conjours mystic tropical clouds of repetition and build that, while complex, are never hard to listen to. The music seems to tap into a primal frequency and demands listeners to dance. A contemporary of James Ferraro (of The Skaters), Oneohtrix Point Never and Ducktails.
He has records and tapes out on loads of ultra hip labels like Not Not Fun (the people who put out records by Sun Araw, Magic Lantern, Pocahaunted), Krayon, his own Winged Sun. Also he's known as the new superastral duo team IIbiis Rooge with the seminal talents of Mr. Neil Campbell, better known these days as Astral Social Club and (ex-)member of Vibracathedral Orchestra. The new album Shangri L.A features the edited tracks from acclaimed cassette "Gabon" on Winged Sun Records and 3 exclusive new tracks recorded during the spring of 2010.

These tracks has been remastered by the Japanese famous engineer Soichiro Nakamura (Guitar Wolf, Boris, Yura Yura Teikoku...).
The album showed High Wolf looking at Africa from his native Amazonia...What's the difference between Amazonian and African jungles? When we live in the wild, with percussions and tribal singing, we're all the same...
Stay tuned for much more High Wolf, including a split 12" with Forest Swords on Brooklyn label Group Tightener (Best Coast, Alex Bleeker etc) and forthcoming shows. Japan tour (w/ Topping Bottoms ) scheduled for Autumn 2010 and a limited LP will be pressed for this tour.
